Oral Surgery
Oral surgery refers to any surgical procedure performed in or around your mouth and jaw, usually by a dental specialist who’s trained to perform certain kinds of oral surgeries. It involves the diagnosis and surgical treatment of diseases, injuries, and defects of the hard and soft tissues of the face, mouth, and jaws. Common procedures include wisdom teeth extraction, dental implants, root canal therapy, and treatment of oral cancers or other diseases.
Wisdom Teeth Extraction
Wisdom teeth extraction is a common oral surgery procedure to remove one or more of the four adult wisdom teeth. If a wisdom tooth doesn’t have room to grow (impacted wisdom tooth), resulting in pain, infection or other dental problems, you’ll likely need to have it pulled.
Bone Grafting
Bone grafting is a surgical procedure that’s used to fix problems associated with the bone or joints. It involves transplanting bone tissue, and beneficial growth factors from the bone graft material can help stimulate and speed up bone growth, providing a framework for the growth of new, living bone.
TMJ Disorders
Temporomandibular joint (TMJ) disorder is a condition that causes pain and dysfunction in the jaw joint and muscles controlling jaw movement. Symptoms may include jaw pain or tenderness, difficulty chewing, and locking of the joint, making it difficult to open or close the mouth.
Sleep Apnea
Sleep apnea is a serious sleep disorder where breathing repeatedly stops and starts during sleep. This can lead to daytime fatigue, loud snoring, and periods of stopped breathing during sleep. It requires medical attention as it may increase the risk of heart disease and other complications.
